Silicon Valley Web Builder Launches OpenSocial Hackathon

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (January 3, 2008) – Silicon Valley Web Builder (SVWB) announced today that it will be holding the first of three OpenSocial™ hackathons in Mountain View, CA, at the Google campus on January 30, 2007 from 5:00pm to 10:30pm. The event will focus on learning OpenSocial APIs and building social applications. SVWB will invite developer Rock Stars, group leaders, and entrepreneurs from the Web 2.0 community to participate.

Google employees will discuss what OpenSocial is and will hold a code lab that will cover sample code, how to write a social application, and how to work in an OpenSocial developer sandbox. This hackathon will be extremely hands-on and will require all participants to be able to program proficiently in JavaScript and a server-side language. Following this, attendees will be able to test their knowledge from the tutorial in a three-hour hacking session. For this, attendees are encouraged to form small teams to participate and compete in a surprise SVWB project. During this time, Google engineers will be available to offer technical assistance and answer questions about OpenSocial. The evening will close by reviewing code and exchanging ideas.

“Our mission of the hackathon is to train more developers to become OpenSocial builders, consultants and experts. OpenSocial APIs offer unique position for developers to build business and professional type of social networking applications in OpenSocial-enabled containers,” said Bess Ho, founder and chairman of Silicon Valley Web Builder.
